Cyberbullying

Deliberate, repeated harassment, intimidation, or humiliation carried out through digital platforms such as social media, messaging apps, or online games.

Cyberbullying involves using technology to harass, threaten, embarrass, or target another person — most commonly among children and teenagers. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying can happen 24/7, reach a wide audience instantly, and follow victims into their homes through their devices. In Malaysia, cyberbullying is increasingly reported in schools and has been linked to serious mental health consequences.

Malaysian Context

Malaysia's Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Section 233) makes it an offence to use network services to harass, threaten, or abuse others online. Cyberbullying can be reported to the MCMC or local police. Parents should maintain open conversations about online interactions and encourage children to speak up if they experience or witness bullying.
