Data Processor

A person or organisation that processes personal data on behalf of a data controller, such as a cloud provider, payroll company, or IT service provider.

A data processor handles personal data on behalf of the data controller. Common examples in Malaysia include cloud hosting providers, payroll outsourcing companies, email marketing platforms, and IT managed service providers. While the data controller bears primary legal responsibility, processors must also implement appropriate security measures.

For Malaysian SMEs

If you use services like Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, or any cloud-based CRM, those providers are your data processors. Ensure you have data processing agreements in place that specify how they handle your customers' personal data.
